Five years ago, the Critical Education Network (CEN) ignited a transformative academic journal known as Rethinking Critical Pedagogy (RCP). Comprising teachers, professors, graduate and undergraduate students, publishers, and website designers, CEN is a voluntary organization committed to fostering emancipatory education, both locally and globally. This initiative was a pivotal response to the prevailing neoliberal culture to foster critical perspectives in education and challenge market-driven, oppressive, and dehumanizing educational policies.
Our collective intention in launching RCP was to create spaces for scholars (especially young scholars and educators), writers, and educators who are deeply committed to emancipatory education. This undertaking remains crucial, given the current academic environment dominated by a neoliberal capitalist culture that often marginalizes works that are critical of market-driven and dehumanizing educational practices.
RCP aimed to broaden the horizon of critical pedagogy, urging educators to engage in domains such as justice and STEM, the potential of digital pedagogy, identity politics, neoliberal hegemony, and race or class as root cause of oppression as well as the realm of critical mathematics education. Unfortunately, these crucial research areas seldom receive the attention they deserve from critical scholars and writers.
